14 Jan Meet the Intern – Michael Peterson
Last summer, Michael Peterson interned full-time here at SpeakerBox, diving in on research projects, media lists, editorial calendars and more. We were lucky enough to have him come back and join us during his winter break from school. Everyone at SpeakerBox has truly enjoyed having Michael as an intern and we thought we’d let you know a bit more about our all-star intern.
What school do you go to and what do you like most about it? Also, when will you graduate?
I go to Virginia Tech and really love the tight-knit community there; it’s a really friendly atmosphere, so you always feel welcomed. Also, midday naps aren’t so bad. I’ll be graduating in May with a B.A. in Communication.
What are you looking forward to most after graduation?
I’m actually really excited to live in a different place. After a few years in Blacksburg, I’m ready to move to a city with more opportunities…and bigger buildings.
What sparked your interest in PR? What do you like most about it so far?
Originally, I got into PR because it was such a dynamic profession. At eighteen, I still had no idea what I wanted to do, but the ability to work in just about any industry with different clients always appealed to me. Even today, I’m still contented with how ubiquitous the industry is.
What is your favorite publication or news outlet and why?
That’s a tough one; I end up all over the internet some days. I read The Atlantic and BBC for most of my news. Both sites, just about, hit on all the bases for what’s going on in the world.
Some of our past interns have had some pretty unique talents and interests, do you have any interesting hobbies we should know about?
I’m really big into CrossFit. I think it’s a great way to challenge myself and stay in shape. I’ve met a lot of cool people and have had some great experiences doing it. I also get to compete with my brother, which is always fun.
Michael has been a fantastic intern and we greatly appreciate all of his hard work!
