30 Jan Meet the Intern – Eddie O’Keefe
This year, Eddie O’Keefe has been working at SpeakerBox as a full-time intern. We hope he’s enjoying his time here (we think he is since he’s staying through the spring semester too!) as much as we enjoy and appreciate having him. We’ve gotten to learn a lot about Eddie since August and we thought we’d let everyone learn more about him as well.
What school do you go to and what do you like most about it? Also, when will you graduate?
I go to George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. The thing I like most about George Mason is how close the school is to DC. It has presented me with a lot of opportunities including an internship at SpeakerBox. I also love the diversity of George Mason. If all goes well I should be graduating in May 2013.
What are you looking forward to most after graduation?
The thing that I look forward to the most after graduating is going out and getting a job and being able to support myself. I’m really excited to get more real world experience outside of the classroom. I want see a company grow through marketing and PR efforts that I helped create and implement.
What sparked your interest in PR? What do you like most about it so far?
I’m currently a marketing major at George Mason and felt that marketing and PR went hand in hand. I feel that I have a pretty upbeat personality and love meeting new people so I thought PR would be a good fit. What I like the most about PR is learning that every company could benefit from PR. At SpeakerBox, I have been able to work with both startups and huge companies. I hope to use what I have learned in PR to eventually start my own business.
What is your favorite publication or news outlet and why?
I think my favorite place to read about news is CNN, I feel like they aren’t too biased. I’ll be completely honest I probably find out about most things going on in the world through Facebook, Twitter or Reddit. I am a huge sports fan; so I spend a lot of time reading or watching ESPN. Go Ravens! I also listen to a lot of NPR while driving, I love driving around Saturday mornings listening to Wait Wait…. Don’t Tell Me and This American Life.
One of our past interns could beatbox, do you have any interesting hobbies we should know about?
Hmm I’m not sure If can top beatboxing, but I’m really into playing Rugby. I have been playing since I was 14, but have only been playing on and off this past year or so because of other commitments. I was even the president of the George Mason team for a while. I hope to get back into it once I graduate and have more time.
Thanks Eddie for your answers and all of your hard work so far!
